SmartBear Software announced a new version of TestComplete.

TestComplete introduces support for automated testing of native applications for mobile phones and devices as well as mobile web applications.

TestComplete 10 includes an open, extensible platform that allows third party testing tools to be tied into the TestComplete automation framework.

With these advancements, TestComplete now empowers any tester, both novice and advanced, to create, manage and run automated tests for any desktop, Web and mobile application.

The rapid growth of mobile continues to transform the software industry. In Q4 2013, SmartBear conducted an international online survey, “The State of Mobile Testing 2014” that confirmed ensuring quality is the greatest challenge for mobile application developers and is the key to success in the mobile space.

Advanced TestComplete functionality including object recognition, scripting, automatic test execution, object spy, visualizer and reporting now apply to automated testing of mobile applications.

“Demand in the mobile space is forcing companies to rely more heavily on developers and testers to create, deploy and maintain complex applications at an increasingly faster pace,” said Niclas Reimertz, VP, Product Strategy and Management at SmartBear. “With its mobile testing capability, TestComplete is a unique and seamless solution for comprehensive testing of applications across desktop, Web and rapidly growing mobile platforms. This next level of test automation allows customers to increase development agility, accelerate time-to-market of application delivery, reduce testing costs and deploy their applications with confidence.”

The TestComplete Platform, included with TestComplete 10, delivers important capabilities for extensibility. With the TestComplete Platform, users can consolidate multiple testing methods and tools into one unified testing framework. For example, customers can combine manual tests, unit tests and Selenium tests into a single test case.

Additionally, when companies extend or customize application objects, they can lose the ability to automate testing of their applications. The TestComplete Platform, with its SDK, creates an easy way for partners and customers to develop extensions that support unique testing requirements.

TestComplete 10 also offers other enhancements including support for Microsoft platform technologies including Windows 8.1 as well as support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2013 as well as updated support for Embarcadero.

"We see organizations seeking to closely coordinate mobile development and popular IDEs with intuitive and effective quality solutions -- the velocity of change and the unforgiving, public nature of mobile software failure make costs prohibitive," said Melinda Ballou, Program Director for the Application Lifecycle Management and Executive Strategies service at IDC, a leading research firm based in Framingham, Mass.

TestComplete Mobile is available now with Android support. TestComplete Mobile with iOS support is currently available in beta with full support later in Q1.
