Boundary and Splunk Inc. have significantly enhanced the integration between their software, making it easier for IT operations staff to resolve application and network performance issues before end users are impacted.

The integrated solution, the Boundary App for Splunk Enterprise is available now through Splunk’s community website Splunkbase and provided free of charge to customers of both companies.

Boundary’s application performance management (APM) service discovers and monitors application topology and flow data every second. Its data now appears within Splunk Enterprise, which collects and indexes machine data such as logs, events and performance metrics from all tiers of the technology stack. Splunk users will be able to see dependencies between applications and components and trace problems through all monitored applications and virtual machines. This is particularly important as applications become more distributed and dynamic with increasing adoption of virtualization and cloud services.

Splunk real-time alerts are tagged as annotations in Boundary’s second-by-second time-series graphs so customers can quickly correlate alerts against application flow and performance data.

Using Boundary and Splunk together allows IT operations staff to instantly identify which servers are critical to the performance and operation of each application and fix hot spots before application performance suffers and end-users are impacted.

“The ability to have data from Boundary’s APM service correlated with machine data directly in Splunk not only allows operations staff to proactively identify and resolve problems across physical, virtual and cloud environments, but also provides greater context to key performance indicators and ultimately a better experience for end users,” said Bill Gaylord, Sr. VP, Business Development at Splunk.

“IT operations staff want to take advantage of the enormous volume of machine data generated by their applications and equipment,” said Gary Read, CEO at Boundary. “Through this integration, users get critical context around Splunk’s rich machine data analytics for proactive monitoring across the entire infrastructure in a way that is more efficient and useful than ever before.”
