CloudPhysics Releases Host Explorer

CloudPhysics announced a major advancement to its Exploration Mode, a root cause discovery solution for virtual Data Center administrators.

CloudPhysics has broadened the scope of Exploration Mode to include Host Explorer, significantly expanding the range of root cause discovery beyond the deep virtual machine (VM) Explorer originally released in November 2015.

A recent CloudPhysics survey indicated that 68% of application disruptions are due to configuration issues, rather than software or hardware failures. Exploration mode addresses this, by easily and interactively displaying resource consumption patterns and environmental changes over time, allowing users to zero in on any problematic time range in the running VMware vSphere environment. With Exploration Mode now encompassing both VMs and Hosts, administrators can focus in on a workload performance issue, and “replay” the environment to correlate events, resource utilization patterns, and environment changes that transpired in the seconds, minutes or days leading up to an application performance or availability problem.

“The dynamic, abstracted nature of virtualization hugely complicates the process of discovering the root causes of problems. Each VM in the environment houses an enterprise workload that must be delivered consistently and efficiently, but it shares resources with other VMs, running other important workloads,” said Chris Schin, VP of Product Management at CloudPhysics. “With the addition of Host Explorer to Exploration Mode, users have the ability to use CloudPhysics’ Deep Infrastructure Inspection capabilities to ‘roll back the clock’ and view the behavior of all components as a problem was developing.”

Exploration Mode provides:

- A 360 degree view of any VM or Host in the virtual environment, aggregating all changes, issues, relationships and metrics in a flexible, unified view

- The ability to analyze changes over time and across infrastructure layers to identify the root causes of issues

- The capacity to navigate quickly between related VMs and Hosts in the virtual data center, to fully comprehend the way components interact impact each other

Exploration Mode is included in CloudPhysics Premium Edition for vSphere, available on an annual subscription basis. Users can get started with CloudPhysics Free Edition, which includes select Premium features.
