ExtraHop announced the latest version of the ExtraHop Discovery Edition, a free virtual appliance for IT operations analytics.

The Discovery Edition, which leverages ExtraHop’s Context and Correlation Engine (CCE) architecture, enables IT teams to take a more proactive, strategic approach, with the following core benefits:

- Real-time, correlated insight and analytics across network, database, middleware, and storage tiers

- Automatic discovery, classification, and mapping of applications and servers while detecting additions and adapting to changes in dynamic environments

- Viewing of protocol metrics and alerts by geographic region with a geomap, or visualization of devices and their dependencies with an application activity map

- Installation of bundles that deliver additional correlated insight for specific applications such as Microsoft SharePoint

The Discovery Edition virtual appliance is now perpetually licensed and comes with upgrades to deliver visibility into performance, availability, and security for organizations of all sizes.

The system runs on VMware’s free hypervisor and uses a high-speed packet forwarder or Switch Port Analyzer (SPAN) to access traffic.

A greatly expanded list of protocol analysis modules now includes NAS and iSCSI for storage, Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, Informix, and Postgres for database.

Other new features include 24 hours of look-back, 1Gbps of throughput, and device-level analysis for up to 1000 systems.

Users can seamlessly upgrade to ExtraHop’s EH1000v virtual appliance, which offers enhanced server-level drill-down and 30+ days of continuous look-back.
