Italtel, a provider of Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Managed Services and All-IP communication, announced Netwrapper – its first Software-Defined Networking (SDN) application that “wraps” network and services (applications), enabling a fruitful harmonization between them.
Built on top of Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure Controller Enterprise Module (APIC-EM), Italtel’s Netwrapper understands each service’s need for bandwidth and determines the right allocation of network resources in order to offer users the best quality of experience (QoE).
The new Italtel application will be released in Q2 2016 as the “policy engine” of Italtel’s Dynamic Admission Control solution: admission control policies of the multi-technology Unified Communication and Collaboration (UC&C) applications are now centralized and dynamically managed by Netwrapper, which interacts with the IP network (through Cisco APIC-EM controller) on one side and with IP-PBXs on the other side.
Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM) and Microsoft Skype for Business are among the first IP voice and video applications that will benefit from QoE improvements via Netwrapper.
“We are very excited to announce Netwrapper. This powerful application ratifies Italtel’s entrance in the SDN Enterprise market,” says Camillo Ascione, Head of System Integration Strategy & Marketing at Italtel. “Our system is based on very refined algorithms, built thanks to our strong system integration capabilities. We have also developed a very smart data model suitable to address many other Enterprises’ needs using an SDN approach.”
Phil Casini, Director of Product Management for Enterprise Networking at Cisco says: “Netwrapper is another example of the collaboration with our ecosystem partners we are supporting to deliver high impact applications for APIC EM. By tapping its expertise in telecommunications to build this solution, Italtel is also demonstrating that our partners can utilize their core strengths and expertise to take advantage of Cisco’s business intent focused SDN approach and build new business models for their practices. Enabling dynamic and centralized network control according to applications’ requirements allows Italtel to advance voice and video communications over IP networks for their customers in a very big way.”
