Ixia Introduces Flex Tap VHD

Ixia announced the latest addition to its portfolio of network taps for monitoring live network traffic – Flex Tap VHD, a modular, very high density fiber tap offering up to 36 taps in a 19 inch 1U space, to reduce IT costs while helping ensure availability of security and business critical applications.

Network taps (test access points) are a key part of the access layer of a visibility architecture because they are an unobtrusive way to capture monitoring data. They offer comprehensive traffic visibility for network monitoring and security tools that do not introduce points of failure in the network.

Ixia has a variety of network taps on the market, offering speeds from 1Gbps to 100Gbps, single and multi-mode, as well as different fiber types and support for Cisco bidirectional (BiDi) transceivers.

Ixia’s Flex Tap VHD is specifically designed to address two of the key challenges encountered by mid to large enterprises, as well as services providers:

- Maintain Regulatory/Security Compliance: Support for a large number of fiber links enables customers to monitor and track data needed for reporting.

- Maximize Existing IT Investment: Support for a wide variety of optical hardware enables customers to expand their security infrastructure without purchasing additional rack space.

Built using fiber-optics, Ixia Flex Taps provide permanent access to network traffic and allow total traffic visibility for network monitoring and security devices—without introducing costly bottlenecks or points of failure. Compatible with all protocols and monitoring devices, Ixia Flex Taps can be deployed at any inline connection on the network without increasing overhead or management workflows.
