Logentries launched a comprehensive logging container for Docker, providing complete visibility across containerized environments, including container logs, container-level stats, Docker API events and host-level activity. Docker customers can now collect and correlate a comprehensive set of important container-level stats with other valuable logs and metrics from across their container stack for real-time troubleshooting and analysis.
“Logentries allows us to drill down to the performance, health and status of individual Docker containers. With this information we can size and optimize our Docker containers to match workloads and the available resources,” said Warren Howard, Technical Director, Cohaesus. “Logentries is an essential requirement for using Docker containers in a production environment.”
The Logentries logging and analytics container enables users to easily achieve a complete picture across their systems and container-level data by:
- Collecting log data from the container and host
- Collecting Docker API events
- Collecting per container resource usage information, using the Docker stats API
- Correlating application performance data with resource usage information and system log data, in real-time
The Logentries logging container for Docker offers an easy way to collect, aggregate and analyze streaming Docker container logs for a comprehensive view of how containers are performing, resource usage, critical events and other types of container-level stats. The logging container is designed to consume both a stream of log data from Docker containers as well as a stream of data from the Docker stats APIs. By collecting the log data alongside resource usage metrics and API events, users have a more comprehensive view of the entire Docker environment, a known challenge in operationalizing a container-based infrastructure. The updated container also offers configurable frequency for collection from the stats API, so that the data can be more or less verbose depending on the user’s needs and preferences.
“As organizations continue flocking to container-based environments, they need to have deep visibility into their Docker containers in both testing and production,” said Trevor Parsons, Chief Scientist, Logentries. “We have built the logging container to plug-in for easy access to important container-level stats and broader, system-wide log events. By aggregating and analyzing these data sets, our advanced logging container enables users to understand the current state of their containers in order to make smart decisions about how to update and optimize performance and resource usage.”
The Logentries Docker Container was developed together with nearForm, leaders in Node.js and Docker development. The cloud-based Logentries service collects and pre-processes log events in real-time for on-demand analysis, alerting and visualization. With custom tagging and filtering, users can correlate data across their infrastructure to better understand application usage and performance, security issues, and user behavior.
