Riverbed SteelHead Achieves US Defense Security Certification

Riverbed Technology announced Riverbed SteelHead has received a Secure Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) certification from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), making Riverbed the first wide-area network (WAN) optimization provider to achieve STIG accreditation.

“This important DISA certification validates our approach to protecting informational assets in today’s cybersecurity environment,” said Davis Johnson, VP of Public Sector, Riverbed Technology. “DoD and civilian personnel rely on networks to instantly and securely access the tools they need to meet mission goals, and we are dedicated to delivering the most secure and reliable application performance solutions to our federal customers.”

Riverbed is attending the AFCEA Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium in Washington DC, April 20-22, 2016.

STIGs are designed to assist in implementing the secure deployment of products and contain technical guidance on how to secure information systems and software that might be vulnerable to attack. With STIG approval, Riverbed will work with U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies to install SteelHead into their network architecture to greatly improve application performance while ensuring strict compliance with security protocols.

“Federal agencies turn to DISA for best practices for securing network devices, and this certification will enable federal IT leaders to execute DISA’s vision of securely maximizing network infrastructure and application gateways,” said Joe Tomasello, Product Management Director for Security, Riverbed Technology. “Coupled with Riverbed being the only WAN optimization provider to directly comply with FIPS 140-2 requirements for encrypted application traffic, this STIG approval is further validation that government agencies can rely on Riverbed for secure network operations and maximize application performance.”
