Zenoss Introduces New ZenPacks for Big Data Technologies Including Apache Hadoop, HBase and ZooKeeper

Zenoss announced new ZenPacks for Big Data technologies including Apache Hadoop, Apache HBase, and Apache ZooKeeper.

“Big Data challenges exist in every enterprise because today’s complex infrastructures generate more data than ever. Storing and properly analyzing that data can yield significant operational benefits if done correctly. Apache Hadoop, HBase, and ZooKeeper are the emerging market leaders, but are highly complex technologies,” states Alan Conley, CTO at Zenoss. “In order to quickly incorporate new technologies like these into your IT infrastructure, you need a flexible, highly extensible monitoring solution. Zenoss simplifies deployment while accelerating time to results for Big Data initiatives.”

The new ZenPack capabilities for Apache Hadoop, HBase, and ZooKeeper include discovery, performance monitoring, event management, and service impact. These ZenPacks ensure that new Big Data technologies and their underlying infrastructure are quickly discovered and efficiently managed as part of your overall performance and availability management strategy.

The new Big Data ZenPacks from Zenoss provide the following capabilities:

- Hadoop ZenPack — Automatically discovers data node, name node, job tracker roles, and what systems they are running on. Tracks memory utilization, file blocks written/read/removed, cluster health, and more. Alerts administrators when nodes are down or there are errors with receiving data. Provides a real-time view of how Hadoop cluster, node, or job tracker failures impact supported services.

- HBase ZenPack — Automatically discovers region servers, regions, and tables. Tracks memory utilization, disk space, read/write metrics, and more. Alerts administrators when issues occur, and provides real-time view of how region server or table failures impact supported services.

- ZooKeeper ZenPack — Automatically discovers Apache ZooKeeper nodes and node count for Apache ZooKeeper clusters. Monitors the status of Apache ZooKeeper nodes and metrics around number of requests, number of connections, and latencies so administrators can understand node health and whether any nodes are under duress.

ZenPacks are pre-packaged, customizable, and extensible plugins that use standard APIs and protocols, including SNMP, WMI, and SSH, and allow users to collect configuration information and monitor specific elements, devices, or systems without agents.

The flexible, highly extensible ZenPack model easily extends discovery, performance, and availability monitoring to new technologies.
