Spiceworks Adds Connectivity Checks for IoT Devices

Spiceworks announced a series of new features for Spiceworks Network Monitor, a free application IT professionals at companies of all sizes can use to monitor and manage servers and network devices in real-time.

Spiceworks Network Monitor now gives IT professionals the ability to go deeper into critical infrastructure by monitoring services, processes, and ports. IT professionals can also look more broadly across their network by monitoring any device with an IP address, including “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices such as connected security cameras, printers, projectors, appliances, and industry-specific devices in manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and more.

Spiceworks Network Monitor can be installed and up-and-running in minutes to enable real-time monitoring of critical devices like Windows and Linux servers, switches, and other network-connected devices. The application helps IT professionals understand what’s happening in their environment with a user-friendly dashboard that shows essential network data and server activity, such as CPU spikes, low disk space, memory faults, and more.

New features include:

- Uptime checks for IP-enabled devices allow IT professionals to verify that any network-connected device with an IP address is online and responding, including IoT devices in the workplace. This allows users to get an at-a-glance view of new network-connected devices finding their way onto the corporate network.

- Service and process monitoring enables IT professionals to troubleshoot server issues and catch application interruptions and outages before they impact end users. IT professionals can customize alert settings to see when critical services and processes are unresponsive and restart them directly from Spiceworks Network Monitor.

- Port monitoring allows IT professionals to track network bandwidth usage and saturation at the port level. In order to quickly get end users back on task, IT professionals can set up alerts to be notified when individual switches or ports are causing network bottlenecks and when critical ports go offline or get over-utilized.
