At KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2023, the OpenTelemetry project announced general availability of OpenTelemetry 1.0.
OpenTelemetry has stabilized its logging API and data model, and shipped the feature in its Java and .NET SDKs.
With the 1.0 release, OpenTelemetry has achieved its initial goals of bringing together traces, metrics and logging in a single SDK for cloud-native developers.
Over the next months, the project expects that other languages will follow suit and release stable versions of logging in Go, JavaScript, Python, and other distributions.
With these features reaching stability, the project team hopes that other open source projects will accelerate their adoption of OpenTelemetry natively.
Austin Parker, Director of Open Source at Honeycomb, said: "As an long-term OpenTelemetry contributor, we're thrilled to see this landmark announcement. Honeycomb has been at the leading edge of OpenTelemetry adoption, and we're working every day to make OpenTelemetry more useful for our customers, such as with the recently announced Honeycomb for Kubernetes, bringing opinionated and actionable Kubernetes metrics and logs to application developers, powered by OpenTelemetry."
